ATTORNEY JOHN P. SANDERSON, JR. has 45 years of experience in the practice of law and concentrates in the areas of Estate Planning, Estate and Trust Administration, and Corporate law as well as Real Estate transactions, Business Planning and Pension Planning. He is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law. He is also a former professional baseball player with the Houston Astros Organization, signing right out of high school playing shortstop for the Astros in the 1960’s. He represented professional athletes in the area of sports law and contract law. Attorney Sanderson represents high net-worth individuals and their families, owners of closely held businesses, and numerous financial and charitable institutions. He also volunteers his time to represent indigent former professional baseball players through the Association of Professional Baseball Players of America. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Lackawanna County Bar Association, the Luzerne County Bar Association, the United States Middle District Court of Pennsylvania, the American Bar Association, the United States Tax Court, and the Association of Professional Ball Players of America and the National Association of Accountants. Attorney Sanderson was BV rated by Martindale-Hubbell for the year 2010. The BV distinguished rating is earned through a peer review rating process.
In 2016, Attorney Sanderson was selected by the National Academy of Jurisprudence as one of the Premier 100 trial attorneys in Pennsylvania. This invitation is extended exclusively to those trial attorneys who have met stringent qualifications and who have shown exemplary representation of their clients as a premier trial attorney. He received this award for his excellence in Orphans’ Court litigation.
Attorney Sanderson is in practice with his two sons, John P. Sanderson, III, Esquire, and Scott R. Sanderson, Esquire, and is happily married to his wife Gloria with three grown children, all of whom are lawyers in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Attorney Sanderson resides in Roaring Brook Township, Pennsylvania.
